What is Empathy?

Empathy is defined as “the ability to understand and share the feelings of others”. This is something that we are born with but can be developed through practice and experience. In this video I share my thoughts on empathy and how it affects our daily lives.

Empathy is not only about being able to read someone's emotions but rather understanding where they are coming from. Understanding their perspective makes us better people and helps us relate to each other much more easily!

How to work on Empathy Skills?

A great way to start developing your empathy skills is to pay attention to what people say and do, notice the details. Paying attention to these details allows you to form opinions and judgments under false pretences. You begin to notice what people like yourself find interesting and what they don't. People tend to repeat patterns of behaviour over and over again. Once you learn to recognize these behaviours, you'll begin to understand people better.

Another great skill to develop is learning how to ask questions. Questions help people open up and become comfortable enough to tell you things you need to know. If you have ever asked anyone anything, then you already know how powerful asking questions can be.

Last, but not least, is paying attention to how you feel when you're around certain people. When you notice that you are feeling uncomfortable, try to figure out why. Is it because you think they might judge you? Or maybe you just feel anxious because you don't want to talk to them. Either way, you should always try to put yourself in other people’s shoes.

As humans, we are social animals. We need to interact with people and be around others who are different than ourselves if we want to live happy and healthy lives.
